" ASSURANCE OF SUFFICIENT NET POSITIVE SUCTION HEAD FOR EMERGENCY CORE COOLING AND CONTAINMENT HEAT REMOVAL PUMPS," DATED OCTOBER 7,1997: PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MA0032 AND MA0033)
Dear Mr. Anderson:
On October 7,1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-04 to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits. The NRC issued GL 97-04 to confirm the adequacy of the net positive suction head (NPSH) available for ernergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment heat removal pumps under all design-basis accident scenarios.
In response to GL 97-04, you provided letters dated October 23,1997, and January 5,1998, for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Unit 1 and 2. In response to a request for additional information dated May 19,1998, you submitted a letter on June 15,1998. These submitta;s I
provided the information requested by GL 97-04. The staff has reviewed your response and has concluded that all requested information has been provided; therefore we consider GL 97-04 closed for your facility.
