Zech Jr.
Chairman U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington D.C.
20555
Dear Chairman Zech:
I want to join my colleague Nick Mavroules, and fifty lawmakers who comprise a tri-state coalition of New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts officials, in calling upon the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for an independent investigation of the Seabrook Power Plant.
The proposed inquiry would have the expressed purpose of thoroughly investigating the numerous allegations, already publicly disseminated, that contend Seabrook's design and construction are faulty, to the extent that if Seabrook were granted an operating license, the public's health and safety would be in jeopardy.
r Members of the Tri-State Coalition for Public Safety assert that they have the hard fact:< and relevant evidence necessary to warrant such an investigation.
And because I firmly believe the Coalition clearly reflects the concerns of the majority of people who would be subject to any potential radiological emergency at Seabrook, I am convinced that such an investigation is now the 1
only means available to restore public confidence in the process.
Whether the Seabrook Power Plant is safe or otherwise, there will be no end to controversy and contention unless and until public confidence in the project is won.
So let all the i
interested parties join forces, and make the effort to once and for all assuage public doubt.
Only with trust restored, will a final decision on the operation of Seabrook Power Plant be accepted by the people.
l i
I am certain that an independent investigation is the only way to win that trust.
