SUBJECT: REPORT N0. 50-395/87-23
The NRC Systematic Assersment of Licensee Performance (SALP) Board has
'
completed its periodic evaluation of the performance of your V. C. Summer
facility.
This facility was evaluated for the period January 1,1986 through
July 31,1987.
The results of the evaluation are documented in the enclosed
SALP Board Report.
This report will be discussed with you at the V. C. Summer
facility on October 21, 1987, at 11:00 a.m.
The performance of your V. C. Summer facility was evaluated in the functional
areas of plant operations, radiological controls, maintenance, surveillance,
fire protection, emergency prept. redness, security and safeguards, outages,
quality programs and administrative controls affecting quality, licensing
activities, and training and qualifications effectiveness.
A high level of improved performance has been identified at your V. C. Summer
facility.
There was an aggressive management posture towards nuclear safety.
Strengths were noted by the SALP Board in the areas of radiological controls,
maintenance, surveillance, security and safeguards, outages, and training and
qualifications effectiveness.
Any comments you have concerning our evaluation performance of your facility
should be submitted to this office within 30 days following the date of our
meeting at your V. C. Summer facility.
Your comments (if any), a summary of
our October 21, 1987 meeting, and my disposition of your comments will be
issued as an appendix to the enclosed SALP Board Report.
Should you have any questions concerning this letter, we will be glad to
discuss them with you.
