of ' direct reading dosimeters should-meet the acceptance 1
criteria of USNRC Regulatory Guide 8.4 and : ANSI Standard.
N13.5.
2.4.2 7 Direct.. reading dosimeters should be issued to and worn by all personnel entering radiation areas.;
2.4.3 The~ discharge,(drift).~of a. fully charged dosimeter should-not exceed <two percent of full. scale in 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
.
2.4.4-.The exposure. sensitivity should be accurate to + 10 per-cent for an exposure of at least one half of full scale.

2.4.5 The direct r'eading dosimeters should be cleaned, drift checked and enlibrated every six months.
2.4.6 Upon. initial receipt.of dosimeters, fill 'out a Dosimeter

!4 5.0 PROCEDURE U
5.1 Prerequisites 5.1.1 Assure that the calibration device being used has been l
calibrated within the specified period of time.
l 5.1.2 Prior to calibration, DRD's should be cleaned in an ultra-sonic cleaner.
p 5.2 Precautions Observe standard precautions for handling radioactive mate-rials.
Do not (unnecessarily) expose any part of your body to the unshielded calibration source.
5.3 Drift Checking the Dosimeter (s) 5.3.1 Using a dosimeter charging unit, charge (zero) dosimeters to be calibrated.
5.3.2 Log each dosimeter serial number and zeroed reading on the Dosimeter Calibration Log (refer to Figure 1).
5.3.3 After 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
in a low background area, log dosimeter readings in the appropriate column of the Dosimeter Cali-bration Log (refer to Figure 1).
5.3.4 The 24 hour2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
drift should not exceed two percent of full scale.
A dosimeter that exceeds the drift limit two consecutive times shall be rejected as defective and given to the Dosimetry Supervisor.
The nature of the defect should be noted in the Notes column of the Dosimeter Cali-bration Log (refer to Figure 1).

~ 5. 4' ' Exposure Check'of Dosimeter 5.4.1 The. dosimeter should be exposed to one half of full-scale
~but not more-than 90 percent of. full scale at an exposure rate _ equal to or greater than the maximum exposure rate as recommended by the manufacturer.
5.4.2 Estimate the time necessary to. achieve the desired expo-
- sure, i.e.,
Assume that 0 to 200 mR dosimeter.is to be exposed to 180 mR'at an exposure rate of 400 mR/hr.
. Calculate the required time as follows:
x min /hr = Exposure. Time _(min) eR 80 Therefore, x 60 min /hr = 27 min.
m hr Record calibration date on the Dosimeter Calibration Log-sheet located in the Dosimeter Calibration Logbook.
(refer'to Figure 1).
5.4.3 Expose the dosimeter for the calibrated time at the de-sired exposure rate.
Record the expected exposure on the Dosimeter Calibration Log (Figure 1).
5.4.4_ Record each dosimeter reading on the Dosimeter Calibration Log. sheet (Figure 1).
5.4.5 Dosimeter readings should fall within + 10 percent of the calculated. exposure.
5.4.6 The technician performing the calibration should initial in.the Tech Init column of the Dosimeter Calibration Log, if the dosimeter is within + 10 percent of the required exposure (refer to Figure 1).-
5.4.7 If the dosimeter reading exceeds + 10 percent of the exposure, it should be noted in the Notes column of the Dosimeter Calibration Log (refer to Figure 1), re-zeroed and re-exposed.
After two consecutive
- failures, the dosimeter should be marked defective and given to the-l' Dosimetry Supervisor.
5.5 Collecting and Issuing of Dosimeters Dosimeters are issued from a stock of calibrated dosimeters in accordance with PDP42.
