DOCKET # 50-317 CALVERT CLIFFS - UNIT 1 February 13, 1989
SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE January 1989 Unit 1 began the month reducing power to 70% (570 MWe Net) to investigate #12 S/G Feedwater Pump control problems.
On January 10 at 0630 a reduction was begun to a shutdown at 0945, to repair a cracked instrument line on #11 S/G Feedwater Pump discharge piping. Additional repairs were required-on #11 Feedwater Regulating Valve and the unit was re-started and paralleled by 0015 on January 12.
Repairs on #12 S/G Feedwater Pump continued, holding power to 70%.
On January 15 at 1715 power was reduced to 50% for inspections of vent pipe repairs.
Power was increased to 70% by 1205 on January 18.
Power was again reduced to 50% for further repairs to #12 S/G Feedwater Pump at 1305 on January 19.
Repairs were completed and power was increased to 70% on January 20 at 0725. At 1535 power was escalated and by 1945 power was at 100% (868 MWe Net).
The unit ended the month at 100% power (870 MWe Net).
. c. ;. s February 8, 1989 REFUELING INFORMATION REOUEST 1.
Name of facility: Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No. 1.
2.
Scheduled'date for next refueling shutdown: March 31, 1990 3.
Scheduled date for restart following refueling: May 15, 1990 4.
Will refueling or resumption of operation thereafter require a Technical Specification change or other license amendment?
Resumption of operation after refueling will require changes to Technical Specifications. The changes will be such as to allow operation of the plant with a higher enriched (4.3%) reload batch and reshuffled core for Unit l's next 24 month cycle.
5 ',
Scheduled date(s) for submitting proposed licensing action and supporting information.
June 9, 1988 (enrichment submittal)
February 15, 1990 (reload submittal) 1 6.
Important licensing cot.-iderations associated with the refueling.
1 The enrichment license, currently under review, will increase our storage limit from 4.1 to 5.0%.
Reload fuel will be similar to reload fuel inserted into the previous cycle cycle except for the higher enrichment (4.3%).
7.
The' number of fuel assemblies (a) in the core and (b) in the spent fuel storage pool.
(a) 217 (b) 1234 Spent fuel pools are common to Units 1 and 2.
8.
(a) The present licensed spent fuel pool storage capacity, and (b) the size 1
of any increase in licensed storage capacity that has been requested or is planned, in number of fuel assemblies.
(a) 1830 (b) 0 9.
