RESCHEDULING OF LICENSED OPERATOR REQUALIFICATION TRAINING PERIOD This letter acknowledges your letter of January 12, 1989, which requests rescheduling the start of the current requalification period which be January 1,1989 until the completion of the Power Ascension Program (ganPAP) which is estimated to be completed in April 1989.
Your letter notes the following with respect to this requested starting schedule change:
Rescheduling of the current requalification period will provide Boston Edison Company with increased licensed operator support during conduct of the PAP.
The rescheduling of the requalification period will also provide the licensed operators the opportunity to more actively participate in the PAP. Significant knowledge and hands-on experience can be gained by the licensed operators as a result of their. participation and observation of the many tests and operational evolutions that will be performed during the conduct of the PAP.
Based on the results of the comprehensive examinations conducted for q
licensed operators during the fourth quarter of 1988, Boston Edison Company believes that there will be no adverse effects on operator proficiency due to this schedule change. Additionally, Boston Edison Company's self-evaluation programs will be monitoring operator performance throughout the PAP.
Should these programs indicate a need for additional training, timely on-shift training will be provided to address this need.
We understand that the requested change in the starting schedule will not impact the completion date of December 31. 1990, for the current cycle. We further understand that all the requalification program requirements will be met in the current cycle in accordance with 10 CFR 55.59. We, therefore, b$k $$$$093 O
