Subject:

Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Administrative Technical Specification Changes

Dear Sir:

This letter is in response to a telephone conference between Duke Power personnel l

and members of the NRC Staff concerning my letter dated March 7, 1986. This letter

{

requested changes to the Catawba Technical Specifications which were deemed to be administrative in nature, correcting typographical errors or clarifying statements.

Several requested changes dealt with the nomenclature " charcoal adsorber" and requested that wherever this statement appeared the words " carbon adsorber" should be used instead.

After the telephone conference a compromise solution was agreed to.

Wherever

" charcoal adsorber" or " carbon adsorber" appears in the Specifications we now would like to have the words " activated carbon adsorber" inserted.

Attached are marked-up Technical Specification pages indicating the affected pages and showing the corrected language.

The Commission has provided guidance concerning the application of standards of no significant hazards determination by providing certain examples (48 FR 14870). One of the examples of actions likely to involve no significant hazards considerations is a change that is purely administrative (example [i]). All of these proposed changes are administrative and therefore involve no significant hazards considerations.

This request involves a supplement to an amendment request to the Catawba's Technical Specifications, therefore, a check for $150.00 is not required.

Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.91 (b)(1) the appropriate South Carolina State Official is being provided a copy of this amendment request.

Very truly yours, pc Hal B. Tucker b
