Gentlemen:
This transmits the July 18 to September 1,1987 routine inspection findings of
Mr. C. Holden and Mr. R. Freudenberger at the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Plant,
Wiscasset, Maine.
Those findings were based on observations of activities,
interviews, and document reviews, and have been discussed with Mr. Garrity of
your staff.
Within the scope of this inspection there were no violations.
One item was
opened as an unresolved item pending additional information on the diesel
generator cooling systems. During a recent sttrt of the reactor coolant pumps
from hot shutdown conditions, your plant operators were observed to be a well
coordinated knowledgeable team that anticipated the associated transient and
acted swiftly and professionally to prevent inadvertent initiation of safety
injection.
