NRC Bulletin No. 88-02 T-Rapidly Propagating Fatigue Cracks in Steam Generator Tubes
Dear Mr. Ernst:
This letter is provided for clarification of the South Carolina Electric &
Gas Company (SCE&G) March 24, 1988 response to NRC Bulletin No. 88-02,
" Rapidly Propagating Fatigue Cracks in Steam Generator Tubes." The SCE&G response to this bulletin should have stated that no indication of denting due to upper support plate corrosion or the presence of magnetite in the tube-to-support plate crevices had been observed during a review of approximately 12% of the total steam generator tube population. The following list provides a compilation of dents resulting from the manufacturing process which were observed prior to Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station receiving the initial operating license in 1982:
