Introduc2 ton Inspections were performed on the subject carbon steel piping durd ng the unit 3 cycle 5 outage to evaluate for wall degradation caused by corrosion and erosion /corres!on neebanisms. Visus) inspections were performed on 1 A1 and 1B1 crossaround piping and moisture separators, and ultrason4c rests (UP) were peformed on sel.ected areas of extraction steam, piping to eval.uate for erosion / corrosion.

Additional UT was per oceed on two areas of the r

EECY 18-inch diameter headers to evaluate for walf degradation' caused by pitting corrosion attack. Unanticipated failures dur-f ng operation could result in a limiting condition for coeration or an amergency outage to make necessary repairs.

Discussion Visual. inspection of the h2-inch diameter crossaround pioing and moisture separators revealed few localized areas of arosion/ corrosion damage. The areas noted were pass 4 ve and wal'. loss was estimated to be less than 0.125 inch. Based on the results of the visual inspection, it was not necessary to perform UT on the piping to evaluate for wall loss.

The 4.nside diameter (7Di ' surface condition of the unit 3 crossaround pipine is consistent with experimental'. data on piping of similar chemical composition.

This pipine contains resideal alloving elemer's which provide a film strength during oxidation to retard the erosion /cor*vrion progression to some decree.

UT examination of the extraction ste.am piping and EECW piping di.d not

-(

reveal any locations of severe wal' degradation. The minimum wall thickness value was calcu'ated ror each pipe diameter at the specified_

design conditions. The calculated value includes a corrosion allowance of 0.080 inch. UT values zenerated during the examination exceeded each of the ninimum wall values. "inimum wall values for each pipe diameter were based on the following des!gn parameters.

areas be examined dueing the next refueling cycle to monitor for wall degradation. When a trend is established, we can inform you or a recommended long-tem inspection frequency.
