Gentlemen:
In response to the information requested pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(f), in Reference (b), Attachment A identifies the pressure isolation valves (PIVs) in the Maine Yankee reactor coolant pressure boundary.
Reference (b) defines PIVs as any two valves in series within the reactor coolant pressure boundary which separate the high pressure reactor coolant system from an attached low pressure system.
In response to Reference (c), regarding interfacing systems LOCAs (Event V), Maine Yankee installed additional leak tight check valves, with leak testing capabilities, during 1981. Technical Specifications on operability and periodic leak testing of these and other check valves that collectively comprise the two barriers protecting the LPSI system from an:
overpressurization event were also implemented.
The PIVs tabulated in Attachment A are, for the most part, not leak tested. For each set of PIVs, we have id.mtified how any leakage would be detected by various system leakage or level indication.. Additionally, elevated area radiation and temperature sensor indications would also be indicative of any RCS leakage. Any serious leakage past the RCS pressure boundary would be evaluated and corrected as necessary.
