NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT N0. 50-395/98-01
Dear Mr. Taylor:
. On February 21, 1998, the NRC completed an inspection at'your V. C. Summer

reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the results of that
inspection.
During the six weeks covered by this inspection period. your conduct of

activities at the V. C. Summer facility was generally characterized by safety
l
.
conscious o)erations and conservative decision making.
We are citing the
temporary slielding issue because your programmatic controls for using
temporary shielding in the plant were inadequate.
It is encouraging, however,
that-your staff identified this problem and brought it to.the attention of
plant management.
This violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice). and the
i
circumstances surrounding the violation are described in detail in the -
enclosed report.
Please note that you are required to respond to this letter.
i
and should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice when-
preparing your response.
The NRC will use your response, in part, to
determine whether further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance
with regulatory requirements.
' In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice " a copy of
this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the'NRC Public Document Room.
