Dear Mr. Vaughan:

This is in response to your letter dated March 20,1998, in which you requested a six month delay in completion of the Northwest CaF2 Storage Area decommissioning project. You indicated that due to adverse weather conditions, you will not be able to complete the final status survey of the area by April 16,199Q,and, therefore, decommissioning will not be completed within a 24-month time period in accordance with 10 CFR 70.38(h)(1).

In accordance with 10 CFR 70.38(i)(5), we have determined that your request for an attemate schedule for the completion of decommissioning is justified. As discussed in your letter, we expect you to complete the decommissioning project and submit the Final Status Survey Report to the NRC by October 16,1998. Please contact Susan Chotoo of my staff at (301) 415-8102, if you have any questions on this matter.
