Dear Mr. Weber:
On 4/16/96, GE received NRC approval of Revision 2 of The Final Status Survey and Release Plan for the Northwest CaF2 Storage Area as provided in our submittal dated 3/27/96. We were scheduled to complete our sampling plan in support of the final decommissioning and release of the CaF2 storage area within two years of that approval, or by 4/16/98.
Sampling is the next step to completion. Unfortunately, we have been inundated by rain and the area we need to sample is either covered by water or is saturated. We believe that it is in the best interest of the project to delay sampling and surveys until the water subsides.
Therefore, we request a six (6) month delay until October 16,1998, with the hope that improved weather conditions will permit us access to complete the decommissioning activities for this area.
We intend to complete this activity as soon as possible once conditions permit.
j Please contact me on (919) 675-5656 ifyou would like to discuss this request further.
Sincerely, h((a fi4 "
