Dear Dr. Grace:
In reference to your letter of July 21, 1986, referring to RII:
50-400/86-50-01, CP&L submitted a response dated August 20, 1986 stating the corrective actions taken and planned to resolve the subject violation concerning damaged instrument tubing. Since the subject tubing was vulnerable to being damaged, as part of our corrective action we committed to performing a final inspection to detect damage upon completion of construction activities in the area. At the time of our response, it was projected that construction activities would be completed, the inspection performed and any damage corrected by September 30, 1986.
As discussed between Mr. P. Fredrickson (NRC) and Mr. D. L. Tibbitts (CP&L) by telephone on September 29, 1986, continued construction activities in Containment make it impractical at this tim'e to perform final inspection to detect further damage. It is
- currently projected that corrective actions as previously committed will I
be accomplished by October 10, 1986. Mr. Fredrickson stated that this revised date would be acceptable to the NRC.
