a Docket Nos.:

50-413 and 50-414 l

Mr. H. B. Tucker, Vice President Nuclear Production Department II M 1987 Duke Power Company i

422 South Church Street Charlotte, North Carolina 28242 1

Dear Mr. Tucker:

i

Subject:

Pump and Valve Inservice Testing Program - Catawba Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 (TACS 65108 and 65109)

By letter dated March 31, 1987, you submitted for NRC staff review and

{

approval Revision 13 to the Catawba Unit I and Revision 4 to the Catawba

(

Unit 2 Pump and Valve Inservice Testing (IST) Program. These revisions are j

identical and they both consist of a change to a note on page II-B-3 concerningthecommencementoftestingder(65ColdShutdowns(Mode 5)which i

exceed 48 hours5.555556e-4 days
0.0133 hours
7.936508e-5 weeks
1.8264e-5 months
.

The staff has reviewed the requested change and finds that it provides a clarification.of the statement that previously existed in Revision 8 to Catawba Unit 1 IST program submitted on November 27, 1985, and in the original IST program for Catawba Unit 2 submitted on October 25, 1985. The change is consistent with the Catawba Units 1 and 2 IST Safety Evaluation Report transmitted on January 8,1987.

Thus, the staff finds that the program revisions are acceptable.

Sincerely, I

1 Kahtan N. Jabbour, Project Manager Project Directorate II-3 Division of Reactor Projects I/II cc w/ encl:
