l Operations Narrative Cooper Nuclear Station May, 1987 Load following operation continued into the month of May.

Power was decreased 1

to approximately 63% on May 3, in order to complete a control rod exchange and to accommodate reduced load demand.

On May 17, an automatic reactor scram occurred during turbine trip testing.

Due to operator error, a trip signal intended as a test actually tripped the turbine. The reactor was started up on May 18.

Due to high conductivity of the reactor water, the reactor was manually scrammed at 2257. One condenser a

tube leak was plugged and startup began on May 21.

On May 22, the reactor was shut down due to continued high conductivity of the condensate.

A more thorough investigation revealed three additional leaking tubes in the condenser. The tubes were plugged and the reactor started up on May 26.

The plant was returned to normal operation on May 28.
