Subject: NRC:RI Inspection 50-317/87-10, 50-318/87-11
This transmits the April 14 - May 18, 1987 resident inspection findings by Messrs.
T. Foley and D. Trimble at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Lusby, Maryland.
Those findings were based on observation of activities, interviews, and document
'
reviews, which have been discussed with Mr. Lemons of your staff.
As discussed with you during the inspection period, we consider the recent problems
identified with the use of commercial quality (CQ) replacement parts in Class 1,
2, and 3 systems to be significant. We understand that you plan to test the CQ
parts removed from code class systems. We will review those test results.
Since
the CQ problem and previously identified Equipment Qualification (EQ) problems may
be indicative of a more general weakness in communicating engineering requirements
to field personnel, we encourage you to continue attention in this area.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
