APPENDIX J EXEMPTION (TAC NO. 65065)

Re: HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION In response to ycur letter dated April 3,1987, as supplemented May 8,1987, I the Commission is considering issuance of an exemption for Hope Creek Generating l Station regarding a requirement in Paragraph III.D.3 of Appendix J to 10 CFR l Part 50. The proposed exemption would relieve Public Service Electric and Gas l Company from the requirement to conduct Type C leak tests on 77 reactor coolant pressure and primary containment isolation valves at intervals no l creater than 24 months, on a one-time-basis, until the first refueling outage.

This refueling outage is scheduled to begin on February 1, 1988.

We have enclosed a copy of the Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for this propored exemption which is being forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
