0FFSITE DOSE ASSESSMENT - OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION, DOCKET NOS. 50-269, 50-270 AND 50-287 In a letter to the NRC dated June 13, 1984, Duke Power Company reported elevated levels of selected radionuclides in fish samples collected in the vicinity of the Oconee Nuclear Station (ONS). Based on this letter and selected inspection findings regarding ONS environmental results, the NRC evaluated current ONS offsite dose calculation methodology for its appropriateness in regard to routine effluent releases, and/or reported radiological environmental data. The evaluation identified discrepancies in dose estimates based on effluent releases versus actual radiological environmental measurements. In addition, a review of the radiological environmental impact of chemical treatment pond CTP-3 was completed.
Enclosed for your review is a copy of the resulting evaluation. We believe that it would be appropriate to meet with you to discuss these findings in the near future. We will contact you at a future date to establish a time for such a meeting to discuss details of the evaluation.
