~-SALEM GENERATING STATION MONTHLY OPERATING

SUMMARY

- UNIT NO. 2 APRIL 1987 The unit began;the period at approximately 89% power,-1,000 megawatts (MW) gross and continued atuthat level until Tuesday, April 7.

A problem developed while trouble shooting the: Electro-Hydraulic Control (EHC) system, the loss of DC control power to the EHC. circuitry closed all. turbine stop'and control valves.

This' sequence of. events resulted infa turbine-reactor trip.. The cooldown of the unit to Mode'S was initiated Wednesday night-because'of a valve bonnet leak'which could not be isolated for repairs.

The: repairs to the leaking valve were completed on Monday, April 13..

A generator stator. water leak was discovered on Wednesday and repairs initiated, while heat'up to normal operating-temperature and pressure'was completed on Thursday, April 16.

The generator'was synchronized on Friday, April 17 and the. unit increased to 89% power, 1,000 MW gross by Saturday, April 18.

The unit continued to operate.at that level for the remainder of the month except for a brief reduction requested by the Load Dispatcher on Tuesday, April 24 for line stability.
