Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection tonducted by Messrs. J. E. Cummins and

B. L. Bartlett of this office during the period April 1-30, 1987, of activities

authorized by NRC Operating License No. NPF-42 for the Wolf Creek Generating

- Station, and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. G. D. Boyer and .other

members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Areasexaminedduringtheinspectionincludedp(lantstatus,operationalsafety

verification, emergency safety features syst'em ESF)walkdown, monthly

surveillance observation, monthly maintenance observation, review of licensee

-event-reports (LER), 10 CFR Part 21 report followup, onsite-event followup,

physical security verification, and radiological protection. Within.these

areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures _and

'

representative records, interviews with personnel, and' observations by the NRC

inspectors. The inspection findings are documented in the enclosed inspection-

report.

. Two unresolved items are identified in paragraph 3 of the enclosed report.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were

identified.
