1his refers to the routine safety inst,ection conducted by Messrs. J. E. Hard
and M. M. Moser of this office on December 8,1985 through February 8,1986,

of activities at the Prairie Island 'suclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2,
authorized by NRC Operating License < No. DPR-42 and No. DPR-60 and to the
discussion of our findings with Mr. Watel and other members of your staff at
the conclusion of the 'nspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection censisted of a selective
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel,
fluring this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation
with NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Notice. A written response
is required.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a) of the Commission's regulations, a copy of
