Concerns About Telephone Access to the Plant Computer In July 1986 an Instrument & Controls (I&C) Technician at Nine Mile Point Unit I raised concerns about equipment and activities at Unit I to the NRC and the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NMPC). The allegations were summarized in our letter to you dated August 11, 1986 and have been evaluated by both NMPC and NRC. Recently we became aware of an additional concern raised by the technician to the New York State Department of Law regarding the capability to access the plant process computer and the MET computer via telephone lines.
l In an October 14 telephone conversation with James Linville, the technician repeated his concern about the telephone access to the computers and stated that he had previously discussed this concern with a representative of NMPC Security.
Accordingly, we request that you evaluate this allegation and provide us the results of your evaluation of this matter.
