Docket No. 50-285

Dear Mr. Martin:

Followup to Special Report on Inoperability of Fire Barrier The Omaha Public Power District, holder of Operating License DPR-40, submits this followup to a special report which was issued December 23, 1985 regarding an inoperable fire barrier.

Fort Calhoun Station Unit No.1 Technical Specification 2.19(7) requires that all penetration fire barriers protecting safety-related areas shall be func-l tional (intact). With a penetration fire barrier nonfunctional, within one I

hour, either establish a continuous firewatch on at least one side of the affected penetration, or verify the operability of fire detectors on at least

one side of the penetration and esloblish an hourly firewatch patrol. Restore j the nonfunctional penetration to functional status within seven days, or pre-l pare and submit within an additional 30 days a report to the Nuclear Regulatory l Commission. Pursuant to Technical Specification 5.9.3, a special report was issued on December 23, 1985 reporting an inoperable fire barrier.

On November 17, 1985, the pyrocrete fire barrier separating fire areas 36A and 36B was found to be damaged due to work on bus ducts in the immediate area.

Maintenance Order No. 857613 was issued to correct the nonconformities. On August 8,1986, repair work was completed and the fire barrier declared oper-able. During the period o; inoperability, an hourly firewatch was maintained.

This followup report is being issued to provide notification to the NRC that repairs have been completed on the subject pyrocrete fire barrier. Future time 8609030147 860321 ,
