This letter refers to the routine inspection conducted by Ms. A. J. Lodewyk of
this office on October 20-24, 1986, at Beaver Valley, Unit 2, Shippingport,
Pennsylvania. Ms. Lodewyk discussed the findings with Messrs. D. Rohm and A.
Crevasse and other members of your staff at the conclusion of this inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I
Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative
records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. However, an
incident involving a potential violation of requirements to constantly monitor
a radioactive source during radiographic testing activities raises concerns
about radiographic oversight and support of this inspection activity.
