  • 4 DEC 3 01986 Docket Nos. 50-282 and 306 Mr. D. M. Musolf, Manager Nuclear Support Services Northern States Power Company 414 Nicollet Mall Midland Square, 4th Floor '

Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401

Dear Mr. Musulf:

By letter dated November 4, 1983, you responded to the requirements of Salem ATWS Item 2.1 (Part 2) of our Generic Letter 83-28 as related to the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Unit Nos. 1 and 2. Your response confirms that the NSSS for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Unit Nos. 1 and 2 is Westinghouse and that the reactor trip. system (RTS) is included as part of the Westinghouse interface program for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant.

The Westinghouse interface program for the NSSS includes both periodic com-munication between Westinghouse and Northern States Power Company (the licensee) and a positive feedback from you in the form of signed receipts for technical information transmitted by Westinghouse.

The staff finds that your confirming statement, indicating that Northern -

States Power Company is a participant in the Westingouse interface program for the RTS of Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, meets the staff's

-position of Item 2.1 (Part 2) of Generic Letter 83-28 and is, therefore, ,

acceptable. We therefore consider Part 2 of Item 2.1 of Generic Letter 83-28 to.be closed by this action.

This action completes our review effort related to Generic Letter 83-28 Item 2.1 (Parts 1 and 2) since Part 1 of this item has been addressed by our letter dated July 11, 1986, and TAC Nos. 52870 and 52871 will be closed as of the date of this letter.
