This refers to the special team inspection conducted by Mr. L. R. Greger and other members of the NRC on November 17-21, 1986, of activitics at the Combustion Engineering Hematite facility authorized by NRC Special Nuclear Material License No. SNM-33, and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. J. A. Rode and others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and interviews with personnel.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during this inspection.
However, several weaknesses were identified concerning your activities. Please provide a written response to the weaknesses summarized in Section 17 of the enclosed inspection report, including appropriate corrective actions.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter, the enclosured inspection report, and your response to this letter will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
