0YSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATIO!1 Forked River, New Jersey 08731 Special Report 86-03 Report Date July 10,1986 Occurrence Date June 16, 1986 Identification of Occurrence On June 2,1986, two hangers supporting the office building fire water supply riser were found to be in need of repair. Consequently, the riser was isolated thereby rendering sprinkler system #4 (MG set room), sprinkler system

  1. 12 (monitoring and control area), and deluge system #4 (cable spreading room) inoperable. This report is submitted pursuant to section 3.12.C.3 of the Oyster Creek Technical Specifications.

Action Taken An hourly fire watch patrol of the affected areas was established within one hour following the discovery of the degraded hangers and isolation of the fire main.

Isolation of the fire main riser rendered the fire suppression water systems itemized above inoperable; therefore, a fire watch patrol was established in accordance with section 3.12.C.2 of the Technical Specifications. The plant was and continues to be in a cold shutdown condition for refueling.

Plans and Schedule for Restoring Operability The degraded hangers were repaired and the fire suppression water systems restored to operable status on July 3,1986.
