This refers.to the inspection conducted by Mr. D. E. Norman of this office

during the perio'd May ~12-16,1986, of activities authorized by NRC Operating

License NPF-42 for the Wolf Creek Generating Station, and to the discussion of

our findings with you, and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the

inspection.

Areas' imined during the~ inspection included control wiring for Limitorque

valve operators located in a harsh environment. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative

l

records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors.

The

i

inspection findings are documented in the enclosed inspection report.

i

Five potential violations are identified in paragraphs 3.a and 3.c of the

enclosed inspection report.

You will be advised at a later date of the

~

enforcement actions, if any, which may be taken relative to these potential

j

violations.

In the meantime, your corrective actions regarding the potential

violations should not be delayed, pending either a future NRC inspection or

j

future actions by the NRC RIV office.

During this inspection, it was found that certain of your activities appeared

!

to deviate from commitments made to the NRC.

This item and references to the

commitment are identified in the enclosed Notice of Deviation.

You are

requested to respond to this deviation in writing.

Your response should be

based on the specifics contained in the Notice of Deviation enclosed with this

letter.
