Dear Mr. Tiernan:

SUBJECT:

EXTENSION OF CALVERT CLIFFS DATE OF RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER NO. 86-06, " IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TMI ACTION ITEM II.K.3.5, AUTOMATIC TRIP 0F REACTOR COOLANT PUMPS" The NRC has reviewed your October 23, 1986 request for extension to November 24, 1986 in responding to Generic Letter (GL) 86-06.

The October 23, 1986 submittal provided all of the information requested in GL 86-06 with the exception of the subcooled margin monitor's (SMM) loop uncertainties.

Furthermore, the NRC understands that the SMM loop uncertainties which you are developing cover a wider range of primary temperatures than the information provided by Combustion Engineering.

Consequently, the NRC deems that your requested extension to November 24, 1986, for providing the SMM loop uncertainties is justified.

As such, the NRC concurs in extending the response date for the SMM loop uncertainties to November 24, 1986.

Sincerely,

/s/
