Subject: Combined Inspection Nos. 50-220/87-02 and 50-410/87-04
This letter refers to the routine radiological controls inspection conducted
by Mr. D. P. LeQuia of this office on January 12-16, 1987, at the Nine Mile
Point Nuclear Stations, Unit 1 and 2.
The findings of this inspection were
discussed with station management at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection of the Radiological Controls Program
consisted of selective observations, examinations and evaluations of your
ALARA Program, control of radioactive materials, operator accessibility to
restricted areas and status of previously identified items.
Within the scope of this inspection no violations were observed. However,
weaknesses in the ALARA Program and in control of portal monitors were
identified and are discussed in the attached Inspection Report.
In accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure will be placed
in the NRC Public Document Room.
