McGuire Nuclear Station - Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Gentlemen:
On May 7, 1986, during a design engineering review conducted at McGuire Nuclear Station for NRC IE Bulletin No. 85-03, Motor-operated Valve Common Mode Failures During Plant Transients Due to Improper Switch Settings, valves 1NI9, 1 nil 0, 2NI9, 2 nil 0, and 2NV7 were determined to be inoperable. The NI valves are Centrifugal Charging Pump discharge to the Reactor Coolant System valves and the NV valve is a Letdown Isolation valve outside the reactor building. This event is reportable pursuant to CFR50.73 Section (a)(2)-
(v1.)(D). The Licensee Event Report for this incident will be submitted by July 3, 1986, pending completion of the appropriate investigation by Duke Power Company.
