Dear Mr. Beckham:

By letter dated June 25, 1985 Georgia Power Company (GPC) submitted its inservice inspection / inservice testing (ISI/IST) program for the second inspection interval for Hatch Units 1 and 2. By letter dated (February 7, 1986, GPC submitted responses to NRC staff questions concerning the ISI I i portion of the program. We have completed our review of the ISI the program. As indicated in the enclosed Safety Evaluation (SE), we portion have of i

concluded that certain of the relief requests should be granted, some  !

conditionally granted and others denied. We have also concluded that relief l 1s not required for some of the items for which relief was requested. The enclosed SE provides the details of our review and Attachment I to the SE provides a summary tabulation of our conclusions concerning each request.

We have determined pursuant to 10 CFR Part 50.55a(g)(6)(1), that the granting of this relief is authorized by law and will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security and is otherwise in the public interest. In taaking this determination, we have given due consideration to the burden that could result if these requirements were imposed on the facility.

We have determined that the ISI portion of the program is acceptable for implementation. We have not completed our review of the IST portion of the program. However, based on a preliminary review of the IST portion of the program, we have concluded that you should follow the IST portion of the program as proposed in your June 25, 1985 letter until our review-is completed. We have scheduled this review for completion by December 31, 1986. We will inform you of the results of this review soon after is it completed.
