This routine, announced inspection was conducted in the area of plant support by a regional  ;

safeguards inspector and selected personnel from the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.  ;

The specific area evaluated was the Physical Security Program for Power Reactors.

o Licensee access control equipment was satisfactory and met the requirements ,

specified in the Physical Security Plan. ,

o The licensee's intrusion detection system / capability had minor deficiencies with respect f

to two zones. An Inspector Followup ltem was opened to further review the system

during future inspections.

o A violation was identified in that deficiencies in the licensee's assessment capability of ,

the protected area were noted,

o Questionable licensee response capabilities were noted. An Operational Safeguards

Review Evaluation is planned to be conducted in 1998. ,
