NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50 331/97010(DRP)
AND fJOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Franz:

On July 17,1997, the NRC completod a routine safety inspection at your Duano Arnold
Energy Center (DAEC) facility. The onclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
During the 6 week period covered by this inspection period, your conduct of activities at
'
the DAEC f acility was characterized by a safety conscious approach and strong self-
assessment. However, one violation of NRC requirements was identified. Tho violation is
i
cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation and the surrounding circumstancos are described
in detailin the subject inspection report. This violation resulted from poor work planning
that caused the standby diosol generator to bo inoperable in late 1996. Subsequent to this
event, as discussed in this report, the actions.taken by your staff have boon effective and
the inspectors havo noted recent improvements in the area of work planning.
The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, the
corrective actions taken and planned to correct the violation and provent recurrence, and
the date when full compliance was achieved is addressed in the subject inspection report.

not accurately reflect your correctivo actions or.your position. In that caso, or if you
