This refers to the routine res,.Sant safety inspection by Mr. W. Troskoski on Febru-
ary 1 - March 10, 1986, at the Bea e r Valley Power Station, Unit 1, Shippingport,
Pennsylvania. The inspection consistu' of document reviews, interviews and obser-
vation of activities. The findings were Oscussed with Mr. J. Sieber of your staff.
No violations were found.
As I discussed with Mr. Ken Grada, Director of Site Operations, on March 21, 1986,
I am concerned with the number of annunciators found in an alarmed condition on
at least one occasion during this inspection period. There were 30 off normal,
red annunciators in an alarmed condition (see Report Item 8 and Attachment 1).
I understand that the_ number of annunciators varies, and as of March 21, the number
of off normal, red annunciators in an alarmed condition was 14. Please respond
to this letter and let me know of changes and repairs you intend to make concerning
the annunciators, particulaHy changes intended to minimize the number of annunci-
ators unnecessarily in an alarm condition.
