SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING WITH GEORGIA POWER COMPANY, HATCH, UNITS 1 AND 2 A meeting with representatives of Georgia Power Company (GPC) (L. Gucwa and J.

Heidt) and personnel from the NRC (D. Muller and G. Rivenbark) was held at the NRC's offices in Bethesda, Maryland, on January 7,1987. GPC representatives briefed the staff on the positive programs and results that it has implemented and accomplished related to the Hatch plant principally over the past year.

The charts used in this briefing are enclosed. The meeting was requested by GPC so that it could refresh the staff's memory and provide new information on positive actions taken to improve operation of Hatch prior to the staffs preparation of its " Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance" report.

l Possible schedules for the next Unit I refueling outage were discussed. GPC indicated that while early April appears to the current schedule, it may be decided to continue operation until June 1, 1987. The submittals requiring staff review and approval prior to restart of Unit 1 following the outage (and for which approval prior to shutdown would be desirable) were discussed. GPC indicated that only two such submittals are forseen as certain, one on ATWS modifications and the other on its intergranular stress corrosion cracking inspection program for Unit 1.

It also suggested that it might need to request Technical Specification changes related to performing the hydro test if it's current requests related to this area are not approved by the ASME Code Committee.
