-Background.

The licensee requests approval of criteria to use positive pressure gloveboxes.. Prior use has been limited to negative pressure gloveboxes.

Discussion i

Westinghouse proposes to use positive pressure gloveboxes with atmospheric control for product quality. To provide radiation protection, the boxes will be limited to nominal pressure (approximately 0.1-inch water); the atmosphere will be recirculated through HEPA filters at a flow rate to' allow 20 changes per hour; and high pressure alarms and air sampling at work stations will be provided.

.The nominal. pressure controls and alarms provide reasonable protection against undue risk of exposure to low enriched uranium.

Conclusion / Recommendation The staff concludes that occupational workers will not be exposed to undue risk by the proposed activity. Approval of the application is recommended.

.The Region II Project Inspector has no objection to this proposed action.
