ADDENDUM TO SAFETY EVALUATION ON THE PROPOSED TRANSFER OF OPERATING LICENSE AND MATERIALS LICENSE FROM BOSTON EDISON COMPANY TO ENTERGY NUCLEAR GENERATION COMPANY PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER STATION DOCKET NO. 50-293 OPERATING LICENSE NO. DPR-35 On April 29,1999, an order was issued approving the proposed transfer of the operating and materials licenses for the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station from Boston Edison Company to Entergy Nuclear Generation Company (Entergy Nuclear). The application for approval

)

described Entergy Nuclear as a subsidiary of Entergy Power Generation Company, which in turn is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation. Subsequent to the issuance of the order, counsel for Entergy Nuclear informed the Commission, by letter dated June 7,1999, of a planned substitution of the direct corporate parent of Entergy Nuclear. Instead of Entergy Power l

Generation Company being the direct parent of Entergy Nuclear, Entergy Nuclear Holding i

Company #1 would become the direct parent prior to consummation of the transfer of the l

licenses. Entergy Corporation, which would be the parent of Entergy Nuclear Holding l

Company #1, would still, therefore, be the indirect parent company of Entergy Nuclear.

l l

The NRC staff has reviewed and considered the abovo proposed substitution of the direct L

parent of Entergy Nuclear that would occur prior to the actual transfer of the licenses. The staff l

has determined that the proposed substitution would net adversely affect the staff's previous l

analysis and conclusions regarding the proposed transfer of licenses, and would not i

necessitate any change in the conditions of approval as reflected in the April 29,1999, order.

In addition, no changes would be necessary to the approved conforming amendment.

l Accordingly, the proposed substitution of the direct parent company of Entergy Nuclear would not invalidate or otherwise require any alteration of the April 29,1999, order, and would not require further NRC licensing action.
