Gentlemen:
This refers to the special safety inspection conducted by Mr. A. S. Gautam and
other NRC representatives of this office on February 2-27, 1987, of activities
at LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized by NRC License No. NPF-11
and NPF-18 and to the discussion of our findings with Mr. W. Marcis at the
conclusion of the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel.
Although the inspection determined that you have implemented a program to
meet the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49, one significant deficiency in the
program implementation was observed. This finding is classified as a
Potential Enforcement / Unresolved Item and an ongoing NRC review is being
performed to evaluate this finding in regard to possible future enforcement
action.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy
of this letter, and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the
NRC Public Document Room.
