Dear Mr. Campbell:
We are continuing our review of your letter of October 17, 1986, concerning the compliance of the reactor coolant system leak detection systems of Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1, with the guidelines of Regulatory Guide 1.45 for the purpose of exemption from the pipe break criteria of GDC 4 on the basis of leak-before-break. We have determined the need for additional information which is identified in the enclosed Request for Additional Information. We request your response within 45 days from receipt of this letter.
The information requested by this letter affects fewer than 10 respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING COMPLIANCE OF RCS LEAK DETECTION SYSTEMS WITH THE GUIDELINES OF REGULATORY GUIDE 1.45 FOR EXEMPTION FROP GDC BASED ON LEAK-BEFORE-BREAK AT ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 1 DOCKET NO. 50-313 1.
Indicate the sensitivity of the airborne particulate and gaseous radiation monitors used for detection of unidentified RCS leakage.
Confirm that their sensitivity satisfies the guidelines of Regulatory Guide 1.45.
2.
Describe how you will use the inventory balance procedure in converting the indication by the other two methods (i.e., sump level and radiation monitoring) to a common leakage equivalent.
3.
Identify and briefly summarize the procedure for testing operability and calibration of the RCS leak detection systems.
Include references to the specific sections of the plant's Technical Specifications as applicable.
