Supplementary Report on Inoperability of Fire Barriers
Dear Mr. Martin:
Reference 2 provided a special report pertaining to the inoperability of fire barriers at Fort Calhoun Station. The subject fire barriers were discovered in piping trenches and were of an unrated design.
It was anticipated that these fire barriers would be restored by October 1, 1986.
This supplemental report is provided to update the situation with respect to actions taken to restore the inoperative fire barriers. As work progressed to repair the pipe leak, which originally resulted in discovery of the unrated fire barriers, it was discovered that the pipe was insulated with asbestos material. The presence of asbestos and the necessary procedures required to remove the material has resulted in a delay in performing the work which was not anticipated at the time of the report forwarded by Reference 2.
This letter is to inform you that the anticipated date for restoring the fire barriers is now March 1, 1987.
The fire watch will be maintained until the fire barriers are restored.
