Dear Sir:

By letter dated November 17, 1986 it was requested, among other :.hings, that Technical Specification Surveillance Requirement 4.6.1.9.4 be deleted and that the valves be tested per their ASME Code required frequency. This Surveillance requires that the Containment Air Release and Addition (VQ) System valves be leak tested at least once per three months.

In support of the amendment request, leak rate data enconpassing approximately 1.', years of testing was provided.

By letter dated July 31, 1987, Dr. K. Jabbour NRC/NRR responded to the proposal in the negative and provided several reasons for the NRC Staff's denial of the amendnent request.

On Novenber 2, 1987 a response to Dr. Jabbour's letter was submitted. This letter, in part, provided additional leak rate data for the Catawba valves and also leak rate data for similar valves at the McGuire Nuclear Station.

Please be advised that at this point in time we wish to rescind the amendment request discussed in the above mentioned correspondence.

A subsequent (and separate) amendment request may be submitted at a later date.

This letter supplements previously submitted informtion, as such, no additional fee is required.

Very truly yours 4
