Inspection Report No. 50-412/86-33
This letter refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. H. Gregg of
this office on October 20-24, 1986 at Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit 2,
Shippingport, Pennsylvania. Mr. Gregg discussed the findings of the inspection
with Messrs
J. Kline, R. Swiderski and other members of your staff at the
conclusion of the inspection.
The objective of this inspection was to review Duquesne Light Company's
activities related to the problems identified with the new ball type Main Steam
Isolation Valves. This included obtaining background information, reviewing
proposed problem resolutions and making observations of any disassembled parts.
This inspection also reviewed the Duquesne Light Company's activities related
to improper ring settings on the Main Steam Safety Valves. Within these areas,
the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and represen-
tative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
