Dear Mr. Mcdonald:

SUS.1ECT: RESOLUTION OF VENDOR INTERFACE PROGRAMS, GENERIC LETTER 83-28, ITEM 2.1 (PART 2) AND ITEM 2.2.2 FOR .10SEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT NOS. 1 AND ?

We have completed our review of your proposals relating to the vendor interface programs for the Reactor Trip System (RTS) and all other safety-related components at Farley site. Specifically, our review relates to the following licensee requirements of Generic Letter 83-28 dated iluly 8,1983:

(1) Item 2.1 (Part 2) required licensees to establish and maintain a continuing interface with the vendors of the safety-related components of the RTS to ensure that vendor information for these components is received by the plant and is complete, current, and controlled during the life of the plant.

(2) Item 2.2.2 required licensees to establish a similar interface program with the vendors of all other safety-related components.

We have reviewed your responses dated November 4, 1983, June 25, 1984, and April 22, 1985. We also met with you to discuss your concerns during a meeting on April 4,1985, in Bethesda, Maryland. Based on our review, we find your proposals are acceptable as documented in the enclosed safety evaluation.

The vendor interface program at the Farley Nuclear Plant is the first such program which we have accepted as referencing the NUTAC/VETIP program as a part of licensee actions for Item 2.P.2 of GL 83-28. Since Item 2.2.2 (MPA B-86) is included in the Safety Issues Management System (SIMS), please advise us of your estimated implementation date for entry into the SIMS database. A date is needed only should you consider that our safety evaluation would necessitate changes to the existing vendor interface program at Farley Nuclear Plant.
