Dear Mr. Utley:
SUBJECT:
INTERGRANULAR STRESS CORR 0SION CRACKING (IGSCC) - MID-CYCLE INSPECTION Re: Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit 2 By letter dated July 15, 1986, youprovidedinformationtohustify operation of Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Unit 2 (Brunswick 2) for a full fuel cycle of 12,000 hours0 days
0 hours
0 weeks
0 months
without a mid-cycle inspection of the unrepaired cracks in two nozzle-to-safe-end welds.. The contents of this letter were discussed with the NRC in a meeting on July 16, 1986. The July 15,1986f submittal was made in response to our letter of June 12, 1986 which provided the results of our review of your Reload 6 IGSCC program. We reconsnended that R
a mid-cycle inspection should be performed to provide assurance thatithe unrepaired cracks in the two welds would not experience excessive. growth during the current Fuel Cycle 7; operation.
We have completed our. review of the information provided by your July 15,'1986 submittal; the enclosed Safety Evaluation provides the results of our review.
We have determined that adequate assurance has been provided that the unrepaired cracks in the two nozzi.'-to-safe-end welds will not experience unacceptable crack growth in the current fuel cycle. We therefore conclude that Brunswick 2 can continue to operate for a full fuel cycle of 12,000 hours0 days
0 hours
0 weeks
0 months
without a mid-cycle inspection for crack growth.
Sincerely, Original signed by Daniel R. Muller Daniel R. Muller, Director BWR Project Directorate #2 Division of BWR Licensing i
