LOW OIL LEVEL IN ESSENTIAL UNIT SUBSTATION TRANSFORMERS AT OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION

Reference:

Memorandum Ebneter to Jordan 12-6-85, same subject This memorandum is to inform you of the status of our review of the subject.

We agree with your assessment that a similar problem could exist at other facilities. We have performed searches of LERs, Part 21 reports, and 50.55(e) reports but have not identified any other cases to date. Based on the informa-tion that you have provided and that we have gathered we believe that an inspection at the GE transformer manufacturing facility in Rome, Georgia is necessary to determine the scope of the problem and appropriate NRC action.

The Vendor Program Branch has currently scheduled this inspection for June, 1986. Following this inspection we will inform you of our intended actions.
