Occurrence Date March 2,1987 Identification of Occurrence An inoperable Fire Spuppression Water Deluge System was not restored to ~
functional status within 14 days from the time of discovery.
This report is submitted pursuant to Section 3.12.c.3 of the Oyster Creek Technical Specifications.
Description of Occurrence On February 16,1987, at 10:15 AM Deluge System #1, which protects the main transformer area, was isolated and. declared inoperable due to frozen piping.
The heating system for the 4160 volt switchgear area was removed from service to accomplish maintenance on the system. As a result of subsequent lower l
outside temperatures, operators noticed the formation of ice on deluge system piping and components and the system was determined inoperable.
Due to the long lead time for procurement of replacements for damaged j
components, the deluge system was not restored to functional status within the 14 days specified in the Technical Specification.
Actions Taken In accordance with Technical Specification Section 3.12.C.2 within I hour of system isolation an hourly fire watch patrol was established.
Deluge System
- 1 was restored to operable status on March 27, 1987.
