Dear Mr. Cockfield:

By letter dated January 27, 1987, Portland General Electric Company (PGE) subriitted an evaluation of Trojan Cycle 9 Core Physics Data.

Because of differences between design predictions and test data for shutdown margin, consideration had been given to performing middle-of-life core physics measurements to verify shutdown margin for end of cycle. PGE concluded that additional measurements were not necessary.

We have reviewed the January 27, 1987 submittal as well as additional information supplied by PGE and find that the information supports this conclusion. Our Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
